Saimir Strati was born in Tirana in 1966. He builds mosaics from materials few people think of as art: nails, corks, coffee beans, staples, screws, toothpicks, paintbrushes and drinking straws.
He learned the craft quietly, restoring ancient mosaic floors and walls at Byllis, Amantia and Apollonia. The patience of that work stayed with him, and in time it became something very public.
His record attempts never happened behind studio doors. They took place in hotels, cultural centres and city squares, where crowds watched each image come together piece by piece. Aurora Strati, his wife and a fellow artist, has worked beside him from the beginning.
In 2026 his work was shown at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and in a solo exhibition at the National Gallery in Skopje.
